Harvest Festival – 5 October 2008

Harvest festival lunch The parish of West Grinstead celebrated the bringing in of the harvest, both agriculturally and horticulturally with a day of celebration on Sunday 5th October.

At Sung Eucharist at St Georges a good congregation, including farmers and others involved in the land enjoyed traditional harvest hymns. This was followed by an excellent hot lunch of traditional local fare which was much enjoyed by members of both churches and others.

The lunch was prepared and served by a group of ladies from S. Georges, who are all excellent cooks and our sincere thanks go to them all for providing such wonderful fare in the church where currently kitchen facilities are lacking.

Festal Evensong followed at 6.30 when the four part choir conducted by the choirmaster Dr Andrew Campbell, organist Gerald Taylor sang The Introit ‘Lead me Lord’ by S. S. Wesley, The Magnificat and Nunc Demitus by Brewer in D, and the anthem ‘Blessed be The God & Father of Our Lord Jesus by S.S. Wesley and traditional harvest hymns.

There are more photos in the parish photo galleries. A day to be remembered by everyone taking part.
