The Sung Eucharist is the main celebration of the week at St. Michael. There is always a warm welcome at St Michael’s, where, within the family environment we recognise the need to accommodate the spectrum of diversity within the Church of England traditions. Occasional visitors to our beautiful parish are very welcome to join us in fellowship and worship and we especially enjoy the outreach involved and broadening our contacts outside this community.
Responding to the words of Our Lord “let the children come to me, do not try to stop them”, we are of course very happy to welcome children to all services and as a sign of our commitment to this vision, we run a Crèche within the church itself during the main Eucharist service, which allows families to worship together. Older children who wish to may join the lively activities of the Sunday School, which takes place in the hall next door to the church. Those interested in music or singing are readily encouraged to join the Choir or Music Group.

The Sung Eucharist follows the ASB (Alternative Service Book) format and uses the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL) three year cycle of Readings and Collects. St Michael’s uses a variety of music including Ancient and Modern Hymns, Mission Praise, Iona Community Song Books and Celebrational Hymnal for Everyone, accompanied by either the Victorian Chamber Organ or Music Group.
There is wide participation by the laity in all services, be it as Welcomers, Lectors, Intercessors, or Ministers of Communion. Sermons at the Eucharist tend to be around ten minutes long and hopefully will form the core of study and discussion in future House Groups which are being developed through the Parish.
We have a team of people who provide refreshments in the Church Hall after services. This is a lovely time to join together to reflect and meet with other members of the family of God.
Although families are welcome at all Sung Eucharist, we do make a particular point to focus on “all age worship” at the Family Service on the last Sunday of the month, when we are joined by the Sunday School, Uniformed Organisations, Youth Groups, Mothers Union and any other groups that wish to participate!!
